Cat Skiing/Backcountry Skiing Combo

We have partnered with the San Juan Ski Company (SJSC) to offer this unique skiing trip in one of Colorado's finest mountain areas. The SJSC offers cat skiing on approximately 35,000 acres of terrain in the San Juan National Forest. By virtue of their elevation and aspect, they practically guarantee you will ski powder no matter what day you go. Well maintained, comfortable cats and lunch round out a great day in the backcountry. We follow this trip with a day of backcountry skiing between Silverton and Red Mountain Pass. Our guides will lead you on a classic ski tour in the area, and show you all the San Juans have to offer backcountry skiers of all ability levels.

*We offer this trip every weekend through early April, but it can also be scheduled during the weekday with a minimum of 2 people. Please call for private pricing.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 (Saturday): You'll meet at the San Juan Ski Company office at Durango Mountain Resort to get fitted for skis, avalanche safety gear, etc. and then head out for a day of cat skiing. Run after run of powder skiing awaits, as does lunch in their private lunch hut. An amazing day!

Day 2: We will meet at the SWAG office in Durango, or if you are staying in the Durango Mountain Resort area, we will come to you prior to heading out into the San Juan high country for a day of backcountry skiing on one of the areas classic tours and descents. The total powder weekend.

Additional Information

Prerequisites: Prior basic skiing and/or snowboarding experience is required. Particpants should feel comfortable sking black diamond runs at a ski resort. Participants should also be in good physical condition.

Trip Cost Includes: Guiding and instruction. Avalanche probe, shovel, and beacon, boots, skis, and climbing skins are available for rent from our shop for an additional cost. Lunch on both days.

Not Included: Hotel costs before, during or after the courses. 3% land use surcharge, trip cancellation insurance, personal climbing, skiing, or camping equipment, or gratuities.

Registration and Cancellation: You will need to fill out our Domestic Registration Form, cancellation policy agreement, and liability waiver, and send it to us with a 50% deposit. Balance is due on the first day of the course. Please click on our Registration link to access the required forms.
